Brownie Recipe -Rețetă de negrese

Nu, nu aveți de unde să știți cât sunt de bune până nu le gustați. Noi (Iris, Cristina, Paul, Gab și cu mine) am făcut-o, drept urmare papilele noastre gustative au dansat tango, cha-cha-cha, ska sau rockabilly iar nivelul de endorfine a crescut pe culmi periculos de înalte. Asta a fost astă-vară, când WWOOFer-ița Alexandria le-a pregătit în bucătăria Cristinei, în timp ce noi, restul, ne uitam fascinați ca la un experiment de chimie. Ne-a promis că ne trimite rețeta exactă pentru a o pune pe blog și chiar a trimis-o, dar eu am tot amânat și uitat să o public, până astăzi. M-am gândit că serile lungi din preajma Crăciunului trec mai plăcut pregătind ceva atât de bun pentru cei dragi.

Rețeta e așa cum a trimis-o Alex. Am scris traducerea mai jos, cu conversile de rigoare. Sper că le-am făcut corect.

FOUND THE BROWNIE RECIPE!!!

Melt – 1 cup sugar, 1 stick butter + 3 tablespoons butter, and 9 tablespoons of unsweetened baking cocoa powder (you can melt it in a microwave, but be careful! — it melts fast).

Beat – 3 eggs until they are pale yellow (using a hand mixer is best). Add 1 tablespoon flour and 1 teaspoon vanilla to the eggs.

Combine the two mixtures (egg mixture and chocolate mixture) and stir together until well blended. If you like nuts, you can add one cup of chopped nuts now.

Pour the mixture into an 8 x 8 inch banking pan and bake at 350 degrees for one-half hour. DO NOT OVERBAKE! If you have a pan that’s bigger than 8 x 8, you must DOUBLE the FROSTING recipe!!!

While the brownies are baking, make the frosting. Melt together 1 cup of powdered sugar, 3 tablespoons butter, 3 tablespoons baking cocoa. When melted, stir together while adding 1 tablespoon of milk or cream. You can add another tablespoon of milk if you absolutely must, but no more.

Frost the brownies while they are warm – but frost carefully, because the top of the brownies is very delicate, and if you push on it – it will break open!

Let them cool totally in the pan, but you can cut them while they are still warm-ish.

Topiți împreună o cană de zahăr, 156 g unt și 9 linguri de pudră de cacao neîndulcită. (le puteți topi în cuptorul cu microunde, dar aveți grijă, se topesc repede!)

Bateți trei ouă până devin galben pal (ideal e să folosiți un mixer). Adăugați o lingură de făină și o lingură esență de vanile la ouăle bătute.

Combinați cele două amestecuri și amestecați până s-au omogenizat. Dacă vă plac nucile, acum e momentul să adăugați o cană de nuci tocate.

Turnați aluatul într-o tavă de 20×20 cm și coaceți la 177 g Celsius timp de jumătate de oră. NU COACEȚI PREA MULT! Dacă aveți o tavă mai mare de 20×20 cm DUBLAȚI CANTITATEA DE GLAZURĂ!!!

În timp ce se coc negresele, faceți glazura. Topiți împreună o cană de zahăr pudră, 43 g de unt și  3 linguri de cacao pudră. Când s-au topit, amestecați bine, adăugând o lingură de lapte sau frișcă/smântână dulce. Puteți adăuga încă o lingură de lapte dacă e absolut necesar, dar nu mai mult.

Glazurați negresele cât sunt calde, dar faceți asta cu atenție, pentru că suprafața lor este foarte delicată și dacă apăsați pe ea se va sparge!

Lăsați-le să se răcească complet în tavă, dar puteți să le tăiați cât sunt călduțe.

Bucurați-vă de ele!

P.S.: În caz că vă întrebați cum am convertit ’1 stick butter and 3 tablespoons butter’ și mi-a ieșit 156 g unt, aruncați un ochi aici. Niște oameni chiar s-au chinuit să facă un convertor special pentru unt!

Sunny Stanciova  The farm where I was volunteering was in Stanciova, a delightfully tiny village outside Timişoara, near the Serbian border. Stanciova is the home of the Ecotopia Association, of which a few households in the village were a part of it. An(other) American in Stanciova

The first thing I noticed about Stanciova is how out of the way it is and isolated from the bigger towns and cities. You cant get here by bus, its not close to any train station, and I dont know if you would be able to find a taxi driver to take you all the way to the village. However, none of that proved a problem for me because my host was happy to come meet me in Timisoara and bring me to the village. After traveling continuously for two months and mainly staying in cities, I wanted something different and working and staying in a small village seemed like the perfect idea.

I grew up in Iowa in the U.S. and all of my closest neighbors were farmers, so I thought I had a pretty good idea of what I was getting myself in too. I soon realized that farming in Iowa and farming in Stanciova are two vastly different things. In Iowa, we mainly grow corn and raise cattle and we import all of our other food. In Stanciova, almost everything I ate came from the village and I was very familiar with a lot of it (I had helped pick the potatoes in our dinner one night, and I had met the baby goat we grilled for lunch). Another big difference is the lack of machinery. All of the work I did was done by hand or with tools, with the one exception being a chainsaw used to cut down trees. Although the work is hard, it is incredibly rewarding to be able to see the potatoes of your labor so to speak.

There are many things to do in the village and I was never bored. Whether its chopping wood, picking potatoes, separating seeds from berries, helping to install a solar panel, or just spending time with friends after a hard days work, Stanciova will provide you with something rewarding to occupy your time.

Stanciova is definitely a different way of living from what I am used too. I believe that ecologically friendly villages will become both more popular and more necessary as time goes on and the demand for more environmentally friendly living practices increases. I am very grateful to have been a part of Stanciova, and I hope that in the future others can use the work done here and the way of living as an example of low impact living.

An American in Stanciova

With over nine million people in its metropolitan area, Chicago is the United States’s third largest city.  We have delis and small groceries, along with Walmarts and mass superstores.  There is no need for people to grow food or keep livestock, and some have never visited rural areas or seen pastures filled with sheep.  As a child, my parents wanted me to understand the value of working with my hands; they hoped I would appreciate country life and what it can produce.  Thus I spent many childhood summers working on an Amish farm in rural Ohio.  I raked manure, administered medication to kittens, attended animal auctions, and milked goats.  None of my work ever involved planting or taking care of anything green. I was really lucky that I could stay in Stanciova, it is a beautiful, quiet and calm place and people are nice.

I experienced many new and interesting things there.
I worked in a garden for some hours a day and my host told me how to take care of plants.
Also, we prepared for some workshops of making bread and building a wall in a traditional way and a gathering on weekend. We picked up clay by using a carriage, which was really interesting for me.
What I was impressed in there most is how people manage their lives without technologies. Almost all of things are on hands such as wood stove, making a wall, arranging furniture, making a sink, connecting water pump..
They have wisdom of lives which people in cities forgot depending on technologies.

I really had an amazing time.
